On April 25th, 2025, the Hueneme Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) carried out its annual school-wide Evacuation Drill—an event in which the battalion had been preparing for throughout the academic year. The drill was conducted in partnership with Miss Soliz, the Medical Pathway Adviser, and her HHS Medical Pathway students.
Each CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) was composed of key roles: Team Leader, Communications, Medical, Utilities, Safety, and Search and Rescue personnel. Overseeing operations at the Command Post were our Principal, Brenda Bravo, and NJROTC Commanding Officer, Victor Jimenez.
As teams deployed to their designated areas across campus, they conducted searches for simulated victims. Before entering any structure, each team performed a Size-up—a critical assessment to determine if the building had sustained only light damage and was safe to enter.
Once cleared, teams proceeded to their assigned classrooms. Following protocol, they navigated the room by staying along the right-hand wall to avoid disorientation—a practice rooted in real-life emergency procedures. The medical team conducted head-to-toe assessments on victims, triaged them, and arranged transportation to the Triage Area, where the Medical Pathway students stood ready to provide further care.
The drill proved to be a valuable hands-on learning experience—a meaningful break from the usual routine that left participants better prepared for real-life emergencies.
On April 4th, 2025, the Hueneme High School Navy Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) took an exciting trip to the historic USS Midway Museum, with approximately 50 cadets participating. Although the ride from Hueneme High School was long, the experience was well worth it.
During the visit, cadets had the opportunity to explore the iconic aircraft carrier alongside their designated squadrons, immersing themselves in Naval history. One of the highlights of the trip was meeting and speaking with retired crew members who once served aboard the USS Midway, gaining insight into their experiences and life at sea.
Overall, it was a memorable and rewarding experience—cadets enjoyed bonding with one another, learning about Naval heritage, and creating lasting memories.

The Hueneme NJROTC Unarmed and Armed Drill Teams walked to the Blackstock Junior High School to perform basic drill movements and routines for the junior high students. Following the cadets’ performances, the 8th graders had the opportunity to chat and ask questions about the program. The cadets shared their personal experiences, and discussed the benefits of the program, encouraging the students to consider joining the NJROTC in high school. The event was an interactive and inspiring way to introduce younger students to the values of leadership, teamwork, and discipline.
With that, groups of students played rock-paper-scissors against our Echo Platoon Commander and Executive Officer. Unfortunately, they both lost.

As we started the new school year, our program has a lot in mind academically and with its community. So far this school year, we have actively participated in the community. The Hueneme Color Guard team presented Colors during the Back to School Night on September 19, 2024. In addition, the Color Guard Team plans to attend and support our Vikings at every Football home game. The Unarmed Basic Team, led by Team Commander Cadet Ensign Ruiz, Angelina, and 18 other cadets performed a drill card. The performance started with Cadet Ruiz, Angelina, asking permission to utilize the quad's drill pad (the front stage) to the NSI (Naval Science Instructed) Chief Hayes. After getting "blessed" with Chief Hayes permission, she began to conduct the drill card. Besides participating at Back to School Night, on Saturday, September 21, over 65 cadets cleaned our wonderful Hueneme beach with other organizations and clubs in our community.
