OPD  Case 78-08292 - The murder of Carlos Chavoya

In May 1978, 31-year old Carlos Chavoya and his friend were both shot in the 100 block of East Seventh St. at the Nopalito Cafe.  Chavoya died as a result of his injuries and the friend survived his injuries.   The surviving victim identified the shooter by the nickname of "Pajaro".  "Pajaro" was in the company of "Golondrino"  and Antonio Carrillo when the shooting occurred.  Detectives tentatively identified "Pajaro" as Mario Ceja, but that name may have been an alias, due to the fact that "Pajaro" had been in the United States illegally.  "Pajaro" fled Oxnard for Los Angeles after the shooting.

Detectives would like to speak to  Mario Ceja aka: "Pajaro".  In 1978 "Pajaro" was described as a Hispanic male, 28-29 years of age, 5'7"-5'8" tall, 140 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.  The only known information was that "Pajaro" was married to a woman named Cathy and they had two male children.  The family lived in the 5200 block of Squires Dr., Oxnard.

If you have any information regarding the whereabouts of "Pajaro" aka: Mario Ceja, please contact the Oxnard Police Department at (805) 385-8174 or coldcase@oxnardpd.org
