Interfaith Leadership Fellowship

From Jan. 8-11, Mylah Morris '24, (pictured above in the front row on the left in the pink hat), and Chaplain Chad Johns '02 traveled to Washington, DC for the BILI Launchpad Fellowship winter seminar. This seminar is part of a year-long interfaith leadership fellowship through Hebrew College that selected Mylah as one of its '23-'24 undergraduate fellows. While there, the fellows and mentors explored ways in which interfaith leadership takes place in our nation's capital, including visiting programs like the Religion and Inclusive Societies Program at the U.S. Institute for Peace and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum Programs on Ethics, Religion, & the Holocaust, attending two panels on black interfaith leadership at Howard University, meeting with the Chaplain of the U.S. House of Representatives, visiting the Dharmic Center and Masjid of Georgetown University, and more.

Mylah had this to say about the experience: "My time in Washington D.C. was an eye-opening experience. It was interesting to navigate faith through a political and government-based lens. I learned important lessons about leaving and taking up space in conversations, intention versus impact, and creating meaningful relationships with people who are fundamentally different than you. I will carry these lessons with me for the rest of my life, even outside of my Interfaith work." Mylah, who is also the moderator of the Interfaith House SLU, will host a capstone project for the fellowship on campus this semester in the form of a panel on LGBTQ+ interfaith leadership and experiences.
