OMSA Celebrates Sixth Bridge Program Cohort
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (OMSA) at our university recently celebrated the graduation of its sixth Bridge program cohort, reaffirming its commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds. This year's program welcomed 36 scholars and 10 peer mentors, offering a rich blend of educational and cultural experiences.
Highlights of the program included:
Visits to Roots 101 and the Muhammad Ali Center in Kentucky
A special trip to Churchill Downs, home of the world-famous Kentucky Derby
Exploration of the Kentucky Derby Museum, featuring interactive exhibits and the "Greatest Race" 360° immersive experience
Conversations with drag performers about activism and LGBTQ+ identity
A visit to the Breonna Taylor memorial park
Completion of the scholars' first college-level course
Wellness activities like yoga and cardio dance
A program-wide talent show
The program also featured exciting new activities this year:
Camping at Mt. Gilead State Park, where scholars enjoyed hiking, camping, and cooking over the fire
A cultural experience at Powell Martial Arts, where they learned about self-defense
A trip to the African Festival, immersing scholars in diverse African cultures
Service at Mid-Ohio Food Network, where scholars volunteered at MY Family Pantry, assisting with sorting, unpacking, organizing, and distributing dry groceries, refrigerated items, and fresh produce to members of the Hilltop community
As the sixth cohort moves forward in their academic journey, OMSA remains dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment and providing ongoing support for all students. The Bridge program's success underscores the importance of community, education, and cultural enrichment in preparing diverse scholars for academic excellence and personal growth.
