The OWU Way
Our philosophy for success stresses the total development of the student-athlete. By practicing and performing with excellence, engaging in a culture of integrity and respect, and fostering a passion for our sport, you will experience significant gains.
There is an art and science to effective coaching. The science is based upon proven methods of training. The art is rooted in developing trust in the coach-athlete relationship. You will be given individualized training within a team concept, developing within in four year plan that's both enjoyable and challenging.
We train each athlete in a comprehensive and event-specific manner. Training Type, Volume and Intensity varies based on the specific cycle of training in order for the individual to peak when it matters - Championship Season. That is a trademark of the OWU way.
OWU T&F/XC athletes experience exceptional achievement, improvement and fulfillment during their four years in our program. You will improve by receiving personal attention and quality coaching from a veteran staff whom have produced countless conference, regional, and national champions.
A Distance Perspective
Common questions from distance recruits are: "what does your training look like?" and "how many miles to you run?" The answers to both of these vary based on each person's training background. You will be challenged at the appropriate level for your training history; performance improvement comes from pushing beyond our former boundaries, but not to the point of breaking. We train within a team concept, but the variables of volume and intensity are individualized.
Distance runners need to develop their aerobic capacity and train to race. Mileage and threshold workouts are balanced with repetitions, intervals and speed development to best prepare you to PR and race to win!
