Our Field Trip to Pizzeria Uno....Here are some highlights from our field trip. We learned about how they make pizza and saw how they operate the restuarant. We got to see how the kitchen prepares and places the food that is ready. We saw where they store the food in the freezer. They also learned about how they use a big dishwasher to clean all the dishes.

We are going to be reading about how different people express themselves. We will be reading stories about different cultures. We will also be reading stories about the past to see how people expressed themselves.

We are working on our last topic of angles, shapes, and symmetry before the state tests. Students are measuring and drawing angles, classifying shapes and angles, and determing lines of symmetry.

In our classroom.... Language is part of our curriculum. In 4th grade, we introduce weekly vocabulary words from the texts we read, encourage the use of content area vocabulary, and push students to extend their thinking while communicating their ideas. In math we are using language to explain our work in math. For example, explain how you got your answer, tell us how to solve this answer. We also believe in ewncouraging use of other languages, our classrooms have thing labeled in different languages, we have anchor charts and posters that help us to use language to explain our thinking.
