In October during Music class, Grades 1-4 have been reinforcing their steady beat skills and singing voices to play "Pass the Pumpkin", singing a song and passing a toy pumpkin around the circle to the beat of the song. If the pumpkin landed on them on the word "BOO!", they were able to pick a musical instrument and keep the beat using their chosen instrument.

All grades have also begun to start working on our music for our Winter Showcase. More information to come soon!

Pumpkin Art Inspired by Japanese Artist — 2rd Grade

In this class, students explored the beauty of pumpkins through art inspired by Yayoi Kusama Japanese artist’s style. They learned to observe shapes, textures, and details while drawing their pumpkins. Using pencils, markers, and watercolor ink, students practiced blending colors, shading, and adding patterns to make their pumpkins come alive on paper. This lesson encouraged creativity, observation skills, and learning from artists around the world.

Pumpkin Art — First Grade

In this class, first graders explored Halloween pumpkins through step-by-step drawing and crafting. They practiced drawing pumpkins by dividing them into sections, adding stems, and using different colors. Students also developed fine motor skills by creating pumpkin faces, choosing their own stencils for eyes, mouths, and teeth, and deciding how many teeth their pumpkin would have. This lesson encouraged creativity, careful observation, and hands-on crafting fun!

Exploring Art Materials- 3rd Grade

Step-by-Step Creativity

In this lesson, third graders explored a variety of art materials through a step-by-step guided project. Students learned how to use transfer paper to copy their own sketches and discovered how to plan and combine colors thoughtfully. This class encouraged experimentation and creative decision-making, as students compared the textures and effects of different media. They practiced careful observation, layering, and planning — important skills that help young artists express their ideas more confidently and independently.

Understanding Light and Shadow — The Art of Shading

Fourth Grade

This year, our fourth graders began their art journey by exploring the fundamentals of shading and tonality. We learned key concepts such as highlight, midtone, shadow, and cast shadow — the essential elements that help artists create the illusion of three-dimensional form.

Through step-by-step exercises, students practiced these ideas first on simple geometric shapes, like a plaster sphere, and then applied their knowledge to drawing an apple. This progression helped them see how light interacts with real objects and how value changes can bring drawings to life.

By developing these skills, students not only improved their artistic technique but also strengthened observation, concentration, and spatial thinking — important abilities that form deep creative and neural connections for future learning.

LIBRARY

In library we have been working on learning about community helpers for both kindergarten and 1st grades. We followed the unit "How We Organize Ourselves," with the central ideas of the "Roles and Responsibilities as Community Helpers" and "Humankind and the environment influence our way of life." We discussed both people and buildings we see in our neighborhoods and students listened to books about community helpers and created their community worker stars.

In grades 3-4 we followed the unit "Where we are in Place and Time" with the central idea "Our understanding of history and place helps shape our identity and connections with others." 3rd grade had discussed Immigration in their classrooms, we looked at the history of Thanksgiving. Where the holiday began with the Native Americans helping the Pilgrims who immigrated. Also we talked about the Macy's parade which also began when Macy's held their first parade celebrating the holidays and their employees many who were immigrants also.
