February 2025
Knowledgeable: The Learner Profile for the month of February is Knowledgeable. When students are knowledgeable, they understand multiple different subjects, and understand different facts and ideas that help them learn about the world around them. Students who are knowledgeable can make concrete connections between what they learn at school and at home, or in real life situations. Knowledgeable students are able to solve problems, think critically, and begin to understand abstract concepts.
In our classrooms students displayed being knowledgeable by connecting the read-alouds to the real world. They took their time to share their ideas with their peers by having discussions. For example, in kindergarten students are focusing on the essential question: How are seasons different? As students learn about different attributes of seasons (e.g., weather, climate, nature, daylight) they are connecting it to the real world. Students are thinking about how their daily life is different based on the season.
This month, students thought deeply about the attributes of the Learner Profile. They listened to read-alouds, watched videos, and listened to descriptors that depicted each one in detail. Students then had the opportunity to each choose one attribute that best describes them as a learner. Students felt a sense of pride and responsibility during this activity. Students are aware and understand that we are always learning and growing, and can flow into one Learner Profile or another, as they become well rounded, life long learners.
