HOUSES
Students gain membership into houses only from Grade 3.
Purpose of OWIS's House System
To create a positive, engaging school culture that fosters belonging, inclusion, and collaboration. Students from grades 3 upwards are assigned to one of four houses, each named after a tree.
Wisteria (purple); Willow (green); Flame (red); and Acacia (yellow). These houses are named after the trees representing different learner profiles.
Connection: The house system recognises and appreciates each student's diverse qualities and strengths, promoting personal growth and preparing them to become responsible individuals in an inclusive environment. House System encourages collaboration among students from different grades and backgrounds, breaking down barriers and promoting cross-age interactions. This collaborative spirit helps to strengthen interpersonal skills, empathy, and understanding.
House points: Points are to be awarded as an incentive for good behaviour, outstanding academic work and positive choices relating to our school values. Throughout the year, house competitions, activities and sports tournaments will be held to encourage healthy competition. Not all tournaments will be sports-based, and house points will also be awarded for other activities and competitions.
About the Houses
Wisteria:
Wisteria trees take time to establish and mature before they bloom with their stunning flowers. They remind us of the importance of patience and perseverance in achieving our goals.
Wisteria represents learners who have a thirst for knowledge and growth. Just like the climbing nature of Wisteria, these students are always reaching higher and exploring new horizons. They demonstrate curiosity, creativity, and a willingness to delve into diverse subjects and interests. Wisteria learners blossom with their continuous pursuit of learning and personal development.
Flame:
Flame trees, with their vibrant blossoms, teach us to embrace our uniqueness and find beauty in our individuality. By shedding their leaves before blooming, they symbolize the importance of letting go, encouraging us to release what no longer serves us for personal growth and new beginnings.
Flame trees symbolize the learners who ignite passion and energy in their academic and extracurricular endeavours. Like the vibrant flames of the tree, these students exhibit enthusiasm, dedication, and a burning desire to excel. They actively participate in school activities, display a fiery spirit in their pursuits, and inspire others with their relentless drive for success.
Acacia:
Acacia trees possess incredible adaptability, growing in a variety of climates and environments. Their ability to thrive in harsh conditions teaches us the importance of resilience and embracing change.
Acacia trees represent learners who demonstrate resilience and adaptability. Similar to the tree's ability to grow in challenging environments, these students possess a remarkable ability to overcome obstacles. They exhibit perseverance, problem-solving skills, and a determination to thrive even in the face of adversity. Acacia learners are flexible and resourceful, adapting to new situations and learning from every experience.
Willow:
Willow trees bend gracefully with the wind, symbolizing resilience in the face of adversity. They remind us to stay flexible and adapt to life's challenges, ultimately bouncing back stronger.
Willows symbolize learners who embody flexibility, empathy, and strength. Just as the branches of a willow tree gracefully sway with the wind, these students demonstrate adaptability and open-mindedness. They possess strong interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships with their peers and teachers. Willow learners are known for their compassion, cooperative attitude, and ability to provide support and comfort to others.
