The Residence Check Program is designed to give the homeowner a check of their residence while they are away on vacation etc. It is not to be used if the home is in use by someone while the owner is away. Occupied homes during these checks can become an Officer safety issue. The occupant may believe the Officer is an intruder when the Officer is checking the home. The program is also not intended for vacant properties or properties for sale. These properties are regularly checked while Officers are on patrol.
Owners participating in the Residence Check Program will receive a report via email of the Officers observations during the inspection. Property check times and dates vary due to number of homes participating in the program and Officer workload during any given time period.
The Ocean View Police Departments Senior Check Program is designed to go beyond automated check-calls. Living alone can be tough for seniors. Many have no family nearby to check on them and frequently, they suffer from illnesses and loneliness. The Senior Check Program requires the participant to call our Senior Check Hotline daily. This call-in procedure puts in motion the process by which our officers account for the seniors status and well-being. In addition to daily calls, officers from the OVPD regularly visit with program participants and provide support and companionship. In Ocean View, we believe the personal touch is critical to the success of our program.
Residents of Ocean View interested in the Senior Check-In Program are encouraged to contact Lieutenant Russell Carter at the Ocean View Police Department by calling 302-537-3304 to setup a time to come in and register for the program. The department can accept registrations Monday-Friday between the hours of 8 am - 4 pm. If you are unable to come by the Police Station, an officer can come by your residence to help you complete the registration form there.
