In 1995, Robert and Kathryn Riddell established a donor advised fund at the San Francisco Foundation. The Riddell's main interests — youth and the environment — motivated their children, Jim and Cindy to continue their legacy. As a result, in 2019, they partnered with SFF, OUSD, and Bay Area Wilderness Training to launch Oakland Goes Outdoors.

This video series was created in partnership with Community Resources for Science (CRS) as a way for Oakland students and their families to get outside beyond classroom hours and enjoy local urban green spaces.

OGO partnered with the Redford Center to produce a longer film (16 minutes) documenting the impact of our mission and program.
Now more than ever we must share the importance of equity in the outdoors and our vision of having all young people in Oakland able to access meaningful experiences in nature, including camping under the stars, and being mesmerized by the mysteries of nature.
