Our library is located on the Madison Park Academy Middle School campus in the Sobrante Park neighborhood of East Oakland.
Our students are a close knit group that are incredibly resilient, advocate for themselves and others, and have enormous linguistic capital and cultural wealth. 100% of our students are students of color (80% Latino and 15% African American) who receive free and reduced lunch. Our students live in a part of East Oakland that experiences frequent trauma; as a result we are a community school that utilizes restorative practices to support the social and emotional needs of our students.
WHAT WE BELIEVE:
MPA’s vision is that our students graduate prepared for college and career as innovative, creative problem solvers who demonstrate character and strive to build a more just community for themselves and others. Our mission is to know all our students well, and in so doing, provide them with engaging opportunities for relevant, authentic, interdisciplinary project-based learning situations, both within and beyond our walls.
