Piercings/Jewellery
Following concerns raised by some parents around pupil non participation in PE due to piercings/ jewellery the Health and Safety Team have reviewed the relevant risk assessment and the assessment now states the following:
“Piercing retainers that are used to hold piercings open when jewellery is not worn may be used – these retainers must be non-metallic, flat and sit flush on the skin.” Following discussions within the H & S Team we agreed that this would be an acceptable and pragmatic approach to allow children/young people to partake in PE lessons whilst wearing these ‘piercings’ (previously no piercings were permitted). We have based this change of advice on the basis that the type of piercing retainers permitted would not present the same level of risk that jewellery would.
