We have been contacted about an exciting opportunity for our young people to showcase their artistic talents. Please see below for further details:
'I’m getting in touch regarding a Year of Young People opportunity that’s taking place in Balloch at the Loch Lomond Centre on Sunday 4 November from 11-4. This a free art workshop that we thought some of your pupils might be interested in.
ScotArt is a nationwide youth engagement project that’s asking young people living in 14 regions of Scotland to identify an iconic image or symbol that represents why or what they love about their region.
Each symbol will be made into an incredible wicker sculpture by our Lead Artist and showcased at the Edinburgh Torchlight Procession, to mark the finale of Scotland’s Year of Young People.
To find out each region’s symbol, our Young Champions are leading workshops, inviting young people (aged 8-26) and youth groups along, and through fun activities and discussion, choosing the final symbol. Following this, the young participants will have an opportunity to work with our Lead Artist and make their own artwork out of wicker, wire and spraypaint (see pictures below).
The regional workshop for Dunbartonshire & Argyll & Bute will be taking place on Sunday 4 November at the Loch Lomond Centre in Balloch.
This is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to represent their region, express themselves creatively, and make their own artwork. If this is something that you’re interested in, please get in touch to let me know. See our flyer below for more details'
Plaster It Purple is a charity for Glasgow Children's Hospital. Mrs Hobson encouraged the pupils of St. Mary's to Wear it Purple in support of this worthy cause. Her Primary 5 pupils worked hard to spread the news of the work this worthwhile charity does. To read more about the charity read here.
We managed to raise an amazing £258.50. Well done everyone!
Please take a moment to read the following letter that has been received from the Chief Education Officer for West Dunbartonshire Council. It is an invitation to be a part of a parent forum across all schools in WDC and have the opportunity to listen to and discuss upcoming plans within education.
The first meeting is scheduled for 18th September at Vale of Leven Academy.
As we are a Digital School, we encourage our pupils to use the internet in a safe, learning way. Each pupil has their own ourcloud account which gives them access to Google apps. We use Chromebooks in school so please take a moment to read the attached information sheet about this.
This document has been created for parents to help guide your children in their use of correct mathematical terminology. Active Schools would like to give a huge welcome to our latest volunteers! Tracy McCarry, Donna Robb and Marie O’Brien are all parents at St. Mary’s Primary School in Alexandria and are giving up their own time to assist with a lunchtime sports club for infant pupils on Tuesdays this term.
“It is fantastic that parents like Tracy, Donna and Marie are willing to get involved with Active Schools and help get more children involved in sport and physical activity out with the school day. Without our dedicated volunteer network, we would be unable to provide pupils with as many opportunities so they really are invaluable!” Yvonne Macdonald, Active Schools Coordinator
Active Schools are always looking for new volunteers to join our ever-growing network and help get the children and young people of West Dunbartonshire more active, more often.
If interested please email: active.schools@west-dunbarton.gov.uk or phone 0141 562 2485 (Clydebank) or 01389 753210 (Dumbarton/Vale of Leven).

Primary 5 pupils led exciting and informative learning opportunities for the school community, encouraging everyone to sign up to the world-wide initiative, "Earth Hour".
