My goal as the ESL Teacher is to provide MLL (multilingual learner) students with the skills and knowledge needed to listen, speak, read, and write English academically, socially, and culturally appropriately.
The ESL Program is a specifically designed program that provides instruction in English to students for whom English is not their native/home language. It is a developmental second language program that teaches comprehension, speaking, reading, and writing in English using second language teaching techniques and incorporates the cultural aspects of the pupil's experiences into their ESL instruction. The ESL program allows students the opportunity to learn English or to improve their English Language Skills.Â
As the ESL teacher, I plan to provide parents with as much information as possible with regard to your child(ren) in the ESL Program. Throughout the year, parents can expect the following either from me or the district:
**A letter to be sent home documenting your child(ren)'s placement or continued placement in the ESL program in your native language if possible and in English.
**Reports/Scores documenting your child(ren)'s achievement levels on State Standardized Tests in your native language if possible and in English. The letter will explain your child(ren)'s English proficiency level.
