I work collaboratively with teachers to provide classroom lessons that focus on improving academic, social, emotional and career readiness skills. Social and Emotional Learning is an essential part of the curriculum for young learners. "The benefits of social and emotional learning (SEL) are well-researched, with evidence demonstrating that an education that promotes SEL yields positive results for students, adults, and school communities"(CASEL, 2022).
Students in grades K-2 participate in weekly SEL lessons throughout the school year. During SEL lessons we: read stories, create art, write reflections and new ideas, and play games. The W.E.S. K-2 SEL curriculum programs include: Kelso's Choice, Harmony, MindUP, Emotional ABCs, as well as a compilation of social stories by author and former school counselor, Julia Cook. We also celebrate three spirit weeks each year: Week of Respect in October, Random Acts of Kindness Week in February, and Career Week in May. Newsletters regarding the content covered in each classroom are sent home at the start of the marking period. Please contact me with any questions you may have about the curriculum or individual lessons.
