Social & Emotional Learning

I work collaboratively with teachers to provide classroom lessons that focus on improving academic, social, emotional and career readiness skills. Social and Emotional Learning is an essential part of the curriculum for young learners. "The benefits of social and emotional learning (SEL) are well-researched, with evidence demonstrating that an education that promotes SEL yields positive results for students, adults, and school communities"(CASEL, 2022).

Preschool lessons are taught monthly, while students in grades K-2 participate in weekly SEL lessons.  During SEL lessons we: read stories, sing songs, create art, and play games. In preschool we use the Teaching Strategies curriculum, Al's Pals. In grades K-2, our program lends from mulitple research-based curriculum, including Kelso's Choice, MindUP, and occasionally Al's Pals. We also celebrate three spirit weeks each year: Week of Respect in October, Random Acts of Kindness Week in February, and Career Week in May. Preschool parents will receive a Family Letter following  preschool lessons. Newsletters regarding the content covered in each K-2 classroom are sent home at the start of the marking period.
