On this page you will find links and resources to help you with the skills you will be using during this project.
Questioning:
Our Super Power: Ability to Question!
(This video is a bit more challenging - "teacher-talk," but maybe it will inspire and remind you as students, that you have these superpowers still!)
Questioning is at the heart of the Deep Learning process. This is true for kids, teens and adults - the super power of being able to develop questions is crucial (important) to becoming better critical thinkers able to see and solve the problems in our world and our lives.
(Philosophy - discussed here is about being able to ask big (essential) questions and then the smaller questions to get us to the big possibilities and answers.)
Forming "Essential or Fertile Questions"
Getting started with a topic or theme is important. From here you can develop your Essential or Fertile question.
What makes a good Essential or Fertile Question?
open-ended (think non-"Googleable" for a quick answer. (often start with how can we... or why... or which _____ is better for _____)
leads to more specific research sub questions which will help you to answer the Essential or Fertile question
requires you to gather information and use critical thinking skills to pull together options or the best answer
Watch the video clip to see how this might be done.
Be Brave - share your ideas, questions with your group and the world!
Part of the Deep Learning Process is about builging on each other's ideas, questions and skill strengths. Don't be shy! Give it a go and encourage others to share their ideas too!
(We know that for some of you this will be a challenge.... but without some challenge there is no growth.)
Growth Mindset: these are the skills we are developing to make us better learners, collaborators and communicators. Links below are quick short videos on specific skills to develop the growth mindset.
"The Power of Yet"
Feebdack to Feed forward: Throughout this project you will be self assessing your own work, and giving feedback to your peers. These are imprtant skills for life long learning and collaboration. But there are ways to give and recieve feedback so that you hear the advice (feedback) and use it to improve. Watch this short clip - "Austin's Butterfyly" that shows how to give and recieve feedback. Everyone can learn to do this - you too!
