Don't worry if you are not sure what to record, just jot things down. We will go over this in class at the beginning of next week.
We are creating a shared class reading log, which is linked below.

Homework: Complete any unfinished work and if you haven't finished reading the novel - now is the time, as next week we start reflecting and planning for your practice exam essays.
This week we are starting work on writing a practice exam essay on The Book Thief.
In this document you will find notes of our class discussion on exam questions and the difference between a Level 1 and a Level 2 exam essay. I have put the link to the Level 1 material in that doc so that you can compare.
In your copy of the document <Your Name> Exam Quotes - The Book Thief, which you will find in your English folder in Drive, select and enter your best quotations for each category. Try and choose examples which come from the beginning, middle and end of the novel, showing development. Keep your quotations short so they are easier to remember.
You can work on this table for homework and in Wednesday's class time.
Copy your quotations into the relevant sections of the shared Class Quote Bank doc, so that you can all help each other to find good quotations.
Read the exam essay assessment criteria and a range of essay exemplars.
In your English folder in drive, you will find a doc <Your name>'s Essay Plan - The Book Thief. The questions for the essay are in this document. You need to choose ONE and make a plan. Be sure to plan for how to answer all parts of the question, and which examples and quotations you will use. Here is an example of a partially completed plan.
When you have completed your plan you should draft your essay in the doc <Your name>'s Book Thief Essay, which you will find in your English folder in drive.
Ask for feedback on your essay and hand the completed version in on Google Classroom by Friday 3 July.
Note: if you wish to use this essay as your first piece for the writing assessment, you will need to put effort into the crafting of your sentences and proof-reading for grammar, spelling and punctuation.
At each step, you are welcome to get feedback and help from me.
Here is a great diagram with some language feature examples from the novel:
