Brainstorm what we already know about all the creatures that live in the ngahere
Explain how each creature lives in it's "habitat"
e.g. manu, mokomoko, te aitanga a pēpeke
Choose 1 native creature in the ngahere:
1. research facts about it's habitat & relationships with other creatures
2. find out about it's food chain in the food web
3. create a visual presentation to teacher others about the creature.
Think about how humans can be kaitiaki of the forest creature.
Brainstorm what we already know about rubbish
(stuff we don't want anymore)
Think about the different kinds of rubbish there are:
e.g. cans, plastic, paper/cardboard, packaging, food.
Talk about ways that:
1. some common rubbish could be reused,
2. some common rubbish could be recycled,
3. some common rubbish could be composted.
Investigate what types of rubbish are brought to school.
Look at rubbish in lunchboxes e.g. chip packets, yoghurt containers, plastic wrap.
Calculate how much rubbish is brought to school each day/week/month/year.
For each rubbish problem find possible solutions.
Watch the Aotearoa History Show and test your knowledge with this blooket.
The story of Aotearoa begins 100 million years ago. Huge tectonic forces rip apart the old supercontinent of Gondwana.
A brand new continent is formed, Te Riu-a-Māui/Zealandia, it’s many times the size of modern day New Zealand.
Meet the creatures which called this land home and witness the geological and climatic forces which reshaped the land.
