FAQ
HOW DO I CONTACT SAVAC?
If you're in an emergency, call 911! If you're off-campus, ask the dispatcher to send SAVAC and they'll try to honor the request. They may send an ambulance that's closer to your emergency.
On campus phones, dial 5555 for University Police.

WILL I GET IN TROUBLE IF I NEED SAVAC?
No. Students are protected under SUNY Oswego's Good Samaritan policy: If you seek medical attention in good faith, you will not get in trouble with the Conduct Office.
If you feel like your situation requires an ambulance, be safe and not sorry: Call 911!
WHAT CAN SAVAC DO FOR ME?
We are prepared to treat any medical emergency that may happen on campus, from alcohol poisoning, to breaks and fractures, to multi-vehicle accidents. Our ambulance is fully NYS Basic Life Support certified and we receive Advanced Life Support mutual aid from Oswego County.
DID SAVAC CHARGE ME?
No. We never bills our patients because our services are 100% free.
If you received a bill, you were treated and transported by a different ambulance company. SAVAC works with county agencies when necessary to assist us in handling calls, like to provide Advanced Life Support.
HOW IS SAVAC FREE?
We are funded by the Student Association of SUNY Oswego. They contribute to our yearly budget for medical supplies, ambulance maintenance, and other costs.
Donations from students, faculty and alumni are also instrumental in the success of our mission to provide free emergency medical services for the SUNY Oswego campus community.

ARE SAVAC VOLUNTEERS PAID?
No. All of our funding goes to organization costs such as maintenance, supplies, and social events.
CAN ANYONE JOIN SAVAC?
Yes, as long as you pay the Student Association fee. From being a social member who does not work on the ambulance, to leading as the chief of operations, we have a place for you!
