From resources on campus to help you for the next 4 years to state and national organizations who protect and defend your rights everyday, we have gathered all of the resources we could find to make them easy for you to access. If you are an out-of-state or international student we highly recommend you check out the state and local resources section to learn about GENDA & SONDA, your legal protections here in New York state.

Campus Resources
The Counseling Services Center provides individual and group counseling, and various mental health resources. One of the groups that they offer is the Trans Support Group, which meets weekly. Click here to learn more.
The health center offers trans specific health care, and has plenty of other resources for LGBTQ+ students, including a list of gender neutral restrooms on campus, local health care providers, and information about things such as legal name changes. Click here to learn more.

Oswego allows students to have their preferred name used on their ID cards, and given to professors. To do this, all you need to do is fill out the form and deliver it to 301 Culkin Hall if you are a student and 201 Culkin if you are an employee. Both the student and employee versions of this form are located at the bottom of this page!
Pride Alliance is Oswego's Gender and Sexuality Alliance. They hold fun social events, and provide support to both students and faculty. Click here to learn more.

New York State Division of Human Rights & GENDA
As a queer person living in New York you have certain legal protections granted by The GENDA Act that was enacted in January of 2019. The NYS Division of Human Rights has a web page with a comprehensive yet easy to understand list of your rights. In New York State it is illegal to discriminate based on gender identity and expression. Employers, landlords and educators are required to use your preferred name, title and pronouns and failure to do so with deliberate malice and prior knowledge is considered discrimination. As a queer person living in New York you have certain legal protections granted by The SONDA Act that was enacted in January of 2003. The NYS Division of Human Rights has a web page with a comprehensive yet easy to understand list of your rights. In New York State it is illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation. It is illegal to be denied housing, education, credit, employment, or access to places of public accommodation (restaurants, stores, etc.) based solely on your sexual orientation and doing so is considered discrimination. An online community of local LGBTQ+ individuals. They often share useful links and they have a private Facebook group called "Oswego LGBT Safe Zone" where members can feel safe to post LGBTQ+ related posts. Click here to learn more.

Planned Parenthood of Central & Western New York
PPCWNY is the group of Planned Parenthood clinics located in the CNY & WNY region. They offer many services such as sexual health services including prescribing PeRP and birth control, STI testing, and LGBTQ services including HRT. Click here to learn more.
This is an LGBTQ+ group based in Syracuse. They offer support groups, case management, outreach and education, and special events such as a pride prom. Click here to learn more.

Gender Spectrum is an organization that aims to create accepting spaces for LGBTQ+ youth. They offer online resources, consulting, and groups. Click here to learn more.

The Human Rights Campaign is one of the largest political queer advocacy groups and has a lot of resources for people of all identities. Click here to learn more.
Lambda Legal is a national organization that advocates for civil rights for LGBTQ+ people, and those living with HIV and AIDS. They work to impact public policy through impact litigation and public policy. Click here to learn more.
National Center for Transgender Equality
