Casey is a Zoology major with a Statistics minor at SUNY Oswego. He is interested in whether migratory birds serve as important vectors for the dispersal of yeasts and other fungi. He shares this interest, and his genome, with his lab partner Zane. Their project involves longitudinal sampling of bird cloaca followed by mycobiome sequencing.
Casey's honors thesis focuses on how niche patitioning between closely related bird taxa influences the fungal species found in cloacal samples.
Casey plays middle infield for the Oswego club baseball team, providing support for genetic determinism in baseball field position.
Zane is a Zoology major with a Statistics minor at SUNY Oswego. He is interested in whether migratory birds serve as important vectors for the dispersal of yeasts and other fungi. He shares this interest, and his genome, with his lab partner Casey. Their project involves longitudinal sampling of bird cloaca followed by mycobiome sequencing.
Zane's honors thesis asks whether sexually dimorphic behavior in birds results in divergent mycobiomes.
Zane plays middle infield for the Oswego club baseball team, providing support for genetic determinism in baseball field position.
Dani is a Zoology major at SUNY Oswego that hopes to work in veterinary medicine. Dani works on our wetland yeast survey, which isolates and identifies yeasts found in a variety of soils from wetland to well-drained.
Dani's main project aims to compare antifungal resistance rates across yeast species isolated from different soil types.
Tune into WNYO 88.9 FM on Friday and Saturday nights to hear Dani host her metal show The Sewer.
Noah is a Biology major and Forensic Science minor at SUNY Oswego. Noah is broadly interested in antifugungal resistance and off-target activity of antifungal drugs.
Noah works on our wetland yeast survey, which isolates and identifies yeasts from soils progressing from well-drained to wetland. Noah's current focus is on the sampling of soils and isolation of yeast colonies.
Noah's favorite pastime is being a fantastic uncle.
Katie earned her BS and MS at Long Island University-Post and her PhD in Greg Lang's lab at Lehigh University. Before beginning her lab at Oswego, she was a Morgridge Metabolism Interdisciplinary Fellow in Chris Hittinger's lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
