Week 4
Grades K-1 will review library manners with No T. Rex in the Library by Toni Buzzeo, and play Library Playground to practice how to have a safe, calm body in the library. They will complete a coloring page and get some wiggles out with the Dragon Dance Movement Break.
Grades 2-3 will also revisit library manners and make some predictions about the book, Do Not Bring Your Dragon to the Library, by Julie Gassman and illustrated by Andy Elkerton.
Grades 4-6 will explore some of the fantastic chapter books and series we have in the library with sample chapter read-alouds in "First Chapter Feature", or should we call it "Hooked on a Book"?
Week 3
Grades K-1 will read The Elves and the Shoemaker (slide 1) and complete an activity. If there's time after reading the book, classes will watch the Muppets' version of this classic fairytale (slide 2).
Grades 2-3 will read The Library Dragon, by Carmen Agra Deedy and complete an activity.
Grades 4-6 will review using shelf markers, learn about the "Series Binder" and the "Read Alikes Binder", then explore all of the new books in our library and check out books.
Week 2
All Grades will practice an RP Circle having a question and answer session with Ms. B. and then discuss what it means to be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe in the library? What does it look and sound like?
Grades K-2 will read Library Lion, by Michelle Knudsen and illustrated by Keven Hawkes, with a NovelEffect soundscape in the background. They will have time to complete an activity/coloring page at the end of class. Watch a Storyline Online read-aloud with Mindy Sterling. See photos of Patience and Fortitude here.
Grades 3-6 will enjoy a funny new book by Mac Barnett, The Future Book. Afterwards, we will invent our own story silly using Mad Libs.
Week 1
Welcome, or welcome back, to Hardwick and Woodbury Elementary Schools! The books and I missed you! 💙 I'm so excited to share all of the awesomeness that can be found in our school libraries! 📚
First things first! I'm sorry I can't be with you in the Library for your first Library Class of the school year. Mrs. Stephanie will be filling in for me this week and any other times I need to be out over the next few months. Please show her and Mrs. Shore how kind and respectful you can be in the Library while they go over a few housekeeping items and then share a story with you.

Let's talk a little bit about Library Procedures and Expectations. How do we enter the library and what sorts of routines do we follow? (Ms. Baranyay will talk more about this next week.)

Who completed the Summer Reading Bingo Challenge? If you did, make sure to bring in your Bingo board by Friday, Sept. 11 with your name on it and grown up initials to claim your prize(s)! Remember, every 5 completed boxes equals one prize!
What about checking out books?? It will be a couple weeks before we are ready to check out books. Computer records are getting updated and bags are being ordered. Hold tight!
