Starting a New Club

OHS Club Proposal Process

Thank you for your interest in starting a Club at Ossining High School! Our programs seek to enrich the experience for students beyond the classroom curriculum in a structured, supportive, and inclusive program. The first step in the process is to make an appointment to meet with Mrs. Mathews and discuss your ideas. If you would like to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Mathews, you may speak with Ms. Mendoza in the main office.

Here is an overview of the steps involved in proposing a new club:

Meeting with Mrs. Mathews to share the initial idea and review the steps below. By Feb. 1st

Preparation of a written statement and proposal outlining the goals and mission of the club. By March 1st. Please include:

- Proposed Club Name

- Names of Founding Student Members (up to 3). At least one student must be in 9th grade.

- Mission of the Club:

                  - How will the club further progress towards the OHS Goals and OUFSD?

                  - How will the club represent a unique experience beyond current course and extracurricular offerings?

                  - How will the club ensure that they are inclusive of all students through recruitment and maintenance?

                  - What are some potential goals of the club in the first year?

                 - What challenges might you anticipate? What support do you anticipate needing?

Present to Building Leadership Team (Principal & Assistant Principals) and Student Council. By April 1st.

Submit a Student Petition to demonstrate interest a demand for the group and Prospective Advisors. By May 1st.

While there is no guarantee that the school will be able to honor a request to start a club the administration will make every effort to explore ways of running clubs that meet the requirements and are in line with the goals of OHS and the Ossining Schools. What we will guarantee is the opportunity to share your idea, provide a rationale for why it should run, and to be provided with feedback as well as a determination of whether it can be run the following year or not.

A strong and vibrant club . . .

Has committed officers who work with the advisor to set goals and plans regularly.

Meets frequently and consistently and is well attended by officers and members.

Continues to fill a unique niche in the school community in the experiences that it provides to its members and students at large.

Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism in completion of operational tasks (assignment of officers, attendance records, runs a table at the Club Fair and OHS Day, follows all guidelines and rules pertaining to fundraising and club operations, etc.).

Actively recruits students in an inclusive manner and works along with other clubs to reach goals.
