ELA will be taught and structured through the components of Balanced Literacy. Balanced Literacy integrates literacy instruction through Readers Workshop, Writers Workshop and Word Work. The goal of Balanced Literacy is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to be life-long proficient readers and writers.

Thinking Maps are used in all content areas in order to guide students to think critically about what they are learning and practicing in the classroom. Each map represents one of the eight methods of thought processing:
