My progress through Stem courses have shown through my high school. I learned how to code, make 3D models, and all sorts of other things. There are so many things that I've learned, and practiced that will help me later in life. Making a website was something I never thought I would need to do, but now I can make one for the barbershop, if I want. I work there and take appointments, so it would be really practical. It's always nice to see myself take some aspects from Stem to apply them to the real world.
This year, we did a lot of interesting activities. I worked with Brett and Mario using non-anodized metals in the glow forge (laser cutter). We had to apply vinegar and mustard to the metal so that the laser didn't reflect onto itself. It took a while, but we found out the right settings and ways to engrave them.
I also made some designs in the beginning of the year with the glow forge on dog tags. I had planned on cutting class panes, but we didn't have the time. the material was just too hard for the machine to detect.
I also worked on my 3D printing this year by cutting out designs and making a skateboard and a glider with the glow forge. We learned about aerodynamics and the reasoning behind why planes have certain features.
