Suggested Packing List

What Should I Bring?

To ensure your student is setup for success in our program, we have put together a list of necessary items to get them started for this school year. Upon student arrival, all items will need to be ‘heat treated’. Please pack electronics and toiletries in a separate bag from clothing and bedding to assist in making this process easier. Students are encouraged to keep their clothing on campus in order promote independence through learning how to complete their laundry. Please keep in mind to swap out clothing during seasonal weather changes.

Things to Keep in Mind

The Ohio State School for the Blind’s Residential Department houses a washer and dryer in each dorm. We recommend having your student keep their clothing here throughout the school year (swapping for weather changes). This way, we will be able to work with them on learning how to complete their laundry as well as limit the amount of things that are being sent home each week.

Although we offer bed linens, bath towels, and wash cloths, we understand that some students may have specific bedding and bathing linen preferences. Please feel free to bring your student’s personal bedding or bathing towels.

Upon arriving to the dorm, each student’s belongings will need to be heat treated for 1 hour. In order to ensure a smooth transition, please pack any items that should not be heated into a separate bag. For example, pack the student’s clothing, shoes, and linens in one bag and their toiletries and chargers in another. Any additional linens will also need heat treated.

The Ohio State School for the Blind is not responsible for items that may be lost or damaged during their stay in the dorms. Students staying the dorms will have a lockable closet for personal items. However, if your student chooses to bring valuable items, they do so at their own risk.
