Water Learning at Osceola Aquatic Center

Water learning includes using activities in an aquatic environment to enrich and reinforce learning in non-aquatic areas of child development.

In water learning we are referring, primarily to reinforcement of academics. However, water learning can reinforce motor skills, physical fitness, perceptual motor development and life skills. Water learning provides for reinforcement of cognitive skills through transfer of learning from the classroom to the pool. Water learning also provides additional sensory input to compensate for disability affected senses.

Some children focus in water better then anywhere else in their environment. Children with attention deficit disorder will find the water an outlet for their energy while at the same time having opportunities to extend attention span engaged in activities to reinforce academic learning. Water learning can be individual in nature but it can be also structured to accommodate parallel play, as well as group interaction. With water the focus of the activity, deterrents to social interaction are often less noticeable, with improved social development resulting.
