    Comprehensive Screening Program
The School District of Osceola has a comprehensive screening program to locate and screen all children with suspected disabilities who are residents of the district, including children attending private schools or enrolled under Open Enrollment and who have not graduated from high school. Children are referred for special education evaluations by school staff, parents, doctors, and other community service agencies (such as Polk County Birth to Three, Head Start, area preschools, and daycares). Children with suspected disabilities enrolled in the schools can be referred for an evaluation by their child's classroom teacher or school psychologist assigned to the building. Other requests can be made by contacting the Director of Student Services.

    Child Development Days/Preschool Screening
Each year the Special Services Department conducts pre-school screenings. All children should be screened at least one time prior to kindergarten. Vision and hearing should be checked twice before kindergarten. If a parent has a concern, the child can be screened more than once before entering kindergarten. Child Development Days are held each winter for students and parents to learn about child development and for the child to be screened for potential needs areas needed. Please watch the newspaper for dates. For further information on the pre-school screening process, please contact Jessie Thorson at 715-294-4140 extension 7501.
