The School District of Osceola Transportation Department provides transportation to students residing in the school district boundaries as long as they are two or more miles from the nearest public school for children in the grades of Kindergarten to Grade 12. For our 4K Students it is a half of a mile or more from the nearest public school. For grades 4K to Kindergarten the walking distance to a bus stop can be up to a quarter of a mile. For grades 1 to 12 the walking distance to a bus stop can be up to a half of a mile.
Under normal circumstances, seating capacities on our routes are designed to accommodate two or three students per seat , depending on the age of of the child. Our younger students are generally assigned seats in the front of the bus away from the hustle and bustle of the older students. Should problems arise with the students the driver is close at hand. Depending on the route, students may occasionally have seat assignments posted by the driver to ensure the safety of our students.
We also provide transportation between the public schools and to Valley Christian School. Students may only ride the bus in which they are assigned. Exceptions can only be made via pre-approval with the transportation department. When permission is granted, students must have a bus slip signed by a school official to hand to the bus driver.
Special needs students are assigned transportation on an as needs basis. All students not other wise capable of utilizing regular transportation services, and whose IEP (Individual Education Plan) indicates a need for special transportation. Special needs transportation is generally a curb to curb service utilizing specialized vehicles. The vehicles are generally smaller than the conventional school bus and contains such equipment as a wheel chair lift, additional restraints systems, and Lower steps heights. All special needs school buses are ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant. The School District works with individual families to determine who qualifies for Special Services Transportation. After the student qualifies for Special Transportation, the information is given to the transportation office. Please allow 3-4 days for the transportation department to arrange services.
Additionally, please keep in mind that school transportation is flexible and must be modified throughout the year to best fit our students' needs. Changes to routes, stop times, and pickup/drop off locations can and do happen especially during the first month of the school year. The best way to keep up to date with these changes is through our Stopfinder Application. We will do our best to communicate all changes to you as far in advance as possible. Route and time changes will be updated on the school website as well.
If you have any questions or concerns about your bus stop or times, or what stop your student is assigned to please contact the Transportation Office. We will be happy to discuss your options with you.
