I feel lucky and honoured to be part of such an amazing team at Oruaiti School. From the moment I first visited, five years ago I knew that I would love it here.
After completing my degree in Cultural Studies in London I decided that I wanted to see the world. Thankfully, Su, my wife felt the same and after many years of putting off the inevitable, we left the U.K for New Zealand in 2006.
I came to teaching late. It wasn't until my 39th Birthday that I left my job in local government in Wellington to follow Su's lead and pursue a new career in teaching. And so, after three years at my old school in Lower Hutt we realised that the Far North beckoned.
Oruaiti School is a special place for so many reasons; each year I seem to have more and more exciting and energetic students to share the classroom with. The community at Oruaiti also amazes me with its generosity of time and willingness to participate and offer their expertise with our classes many projects. Finally, I feel like I am part of a very special team who support each other in a way rarely seen in any work place that I have ever known.
I live with my amazing wife and daughter; Susan and Scout, in Whangaroa Harbour and we enjoy exploring the Far North's stunning coastline and surfing at Taupo Bay as much as we can.
