Drama Club Event: One Act Play Festival

Date: May 31st, 6pm-7:30pm. OHS Fenholt Auditorium.

Drama club students, please join us for an evening to showcase student talent in acting and directing with a series of student written and directed One Act plays. Friends and family may be invited by participating drama club members as well. Please note: This year's selections include some mature and sensitive themes.

Drama Club Event: Drama Camp

Date: August 12-15, 10am-3pm. OHS Fenholt Auditorium.

Explore the world of drama through the Orono High School Theater department as you build skills in acting, technical theater, and more. Younger students will get the opportunity to meet peers involved with theater, practice basic skills and receive tips on auditioning for school shows. Older students will further advance their theater skills. This is a great introduction to high school theater and an opportunity to prepare students for auditions for the fall musical. We will perform for friends and family on Thursday afternoon. Sign up through Community Education.

Spotlight Showcase

June 10th, 2024

Spotlight Showcase is Minnesota high school theater’s biggest celebration! Over 1,600 students will participate in the annual awards and recognition event, presented by Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Spotlight Education program. After a year of participating in Spotlight-evaluated plays and musicals, students from across Minnesota take the stage at the historic State Theatre. The event also highlights Minnesota theater educators and Spotlight alumni.

Orono High School has been invited to perform a medley from our Fall Musical, Bright Star! Performers and technicians will be honored on June 10th at the State Theater.

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE DATES:

Students, please be sure you have completed the Participation Registration form for Spotlight! Due May 22nd.

Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the event.  Please plan to park at the Interstate Ramp at 9th and LaSalle - Spotlight staff, volunteers, and participants will be directed to park here and a security team will be present as well.

Students should plan to wear black pants and black shoes for the performance; a Spotlight Tshirt will be provided at the dress rehearsal on June 8th.

Tickets for the event are available at the Hennepin Theatre Trust website.

Spotlight Community Tickets is our low- and no-cost Broadway ticket program for members of the Spotlight Education community. This program furthers our mission of making professional theater accessible to students and educators across the state of Minnesota. If you were not a member of Community Tickets last year, we encourage you to register for this opportunity this year!

To be eligible, you must be a student in 9th-12th grade at a currently registered Spotlight high school, educator(s) currently serving as primary contact(s) for a participating Spotlight high school, or be an active Spotlight evaluator or teaching artist.

If you have any questions regarding the update or eligibility, please email us at SpotlightEducation@HennepinTheatreTrust.org.
