Home Learning

Here at OrmPS we do not provide lengthy worksheets for our learners to complete at home every night. We understand that many learners are involved in after school clubs and sports teams. We also value family time and hope that the worksheets can be replaced with time to talk, help with the evening meal and play!

Two things we do expect, however, are for them to read for 20-30 minutes each night and achieve 1000 points on Mathletics each week.

They can choose to read books on their Bug Club shelf (and answer the comprehension questions), or books of their own choosing. Whatever they choose to read, it must be an iPick book (purposeful, interesting, challenging - yet they know most of the words). It would be great if you could spend some time with your child to talk about what they are reading, e.g. What have they learned? Who are the characters? Where is the setting? You might even like to read together!

Learning Coaches set Mathletics activities for the learners in their hapu and your child is to spend time here before going onto other areas of the Mathletics site, e.g. Mathletics Live. Learners are expected to achieve 1000 points by Friday morning, each week. The Learning Coaches will be keeping an eye on high achievers and we will celebrate these each week with a Mathletics certificate.

We realise that family life can get busy, but we will be in touch if your child has not been given the opportunity to read and/or achieve 1000 points on Mathletics, for more than two weeks.
