Narrative music videos are different to a lot of modern music videos. A lot of modern music videos don't attempt to tell stories - they just focus on the performer dancing, singing, or doing things in an abstract (but cool) space that don't make a lot of sense.
A NARRATIVE music video is primarily interested in telling a story. This story needs to be engaging and interesting for the target audience. Ideally, it will have some link to the music, but that link might just be the mood of the video, rather than literally acting out the lyrics. (You should really, really avoid literally acting out the lyrics).
