Student Guidelines for Zoom Use

Attendance

Every attempt should be made to attend Zoom meetings hosted by your teacher(s). This is your opportunity to interact with your teacher and ask questions. Content presented during the Zoom may or may not be available after the conclusion of the Zoom meeting.

Zoom Guidelines

● Join Zoom meetings from a public place in your house (living room, etc.)

● Make sure to check what is going on in your background

● Use your first name and not your full name

● Mute the mic when not talking to the group

● Raise your hand when you want to share

● Make eye contact with the camera

● Listen and be respectful

● Minimize distractions

● Never share personal information

● At no time should a student or parent record or redistribute Zoom meeting content without written Orland School District 135 consent.

You can see the full district Zoom Guideline here.

What parents should know about Zoom and D135 Student Accounts

Student safety is our first priority. D135 has taken several proactive steps to protect students in the Zoom environment.

  • Students can not create meetings with their OSD Zoom/Google account.

  • Only credentialized participants will be able to join Zoom meetings hosted by OSD 135 staff. This reduces the potential for Zoom-bombing by uninvited guests.

Furthermore, please review the following with your child:

  • Zoom is the classroom. Act in the Zoom meeting as if you were in the classroom. All classroom expectations and guidelines apply in a Zoom meeting. Do not share anything that you would not share with the entire class.

  • Set up at home Zoom expectations for your child. This includes what locations are appropriate for participating Zoom meetings.

As always, if you have any concerns about Zoom, please reach out to your child's teacher.
