Following the huge success of the past two years’ themed winter socials, Student Government is keeping the momentum going by unveiling the theme for this year’s first high school social, a precursor event leading into Prom season.
This time, the Events Committee has opted for a seasonal oxymoron, Sunshine Social, encouraging students to pause the cold, winter weather and show up in their best summer-inspired outfits.
In previous years, students embraced the themes from cowboy boots and hats at Western Winter, complete with line dancing and country hits, to neon sunglasses and high-energy music at last year’s Neon Winter Social. Both the 2023 and 2024 socials drew record attendance, with students enjoying dancing, music, games, and time with classmates and teachers.
Students can RSVP for this year’s Sunshine Social and find more information on Field Trip Central. With a limited number of spots available, early RSVPs are strongly encouraged.
Events Committee Coordinator Keagan Stewart explains that the theme will resemble a luau-style celebration and shares, “This event is a great place to meet your friends, make new ones, play games and dance to One Direction.”
"I'm excited for winter social each year, especially with all the planning that goes on behind the scenes,” adds Outreach Coordinator Steliana Strugar. Student Government has been crafting this theme since shortly after Open House.
There will be lots of opportunities to play games and take photos as well as dance. Strugar explains. “There's dancing and music to showcase your dance moves, but it isn't a requirement to participate. It's a fun and welcoming environment to talk to friends or make some new ones. I highly recommend going if any of that interests you, or maybe to experience some mid-January summer fun!"
