ORCA’s Esports program is off to a strong start this year, wrapping up the fall season with massive success, new highs, and some impressive gameplay. Across three games and five total teams, 21 students competed on the PlayVS platform. Whether they were dominating in Rocket League or excelling in Super Smash Bros., these players have officially carved their place into ORCA Esports history.
Here’s how each team performed during the first few months of competition.
Rocket League
Rocket League A
Rocket League A came out swinging, opening the season with a strong 3-1 win over Kelton High School Copper. They hit a bump after that with a 0-3 loss to Manzano High School’s Monarchs A, but still started off the first few weeks with a solid 2-1 match record, totaling six game wins and four losses.
Although they sat just below Rocket League B in opponent match win (OMW%) percentage early on, the team went on to split their next two matches with one win and one loss to bring them to 4-2 with 12 total game wins. This propelled them up two spots on the leaderboard, landing at 16th in the standings.
Rocket League B
Rocket League B had a tougher opening stretch, dropping early matches 0-3 to both T.A. Cybernetics RL and Bev Facey Community High School’s Facey Falcons Gold.
They started 1-2 with three game wins and six losses, but held a higher OMW% than Rocket League A, which implies their competition was stronger. After that, they struggled to regain momentum, losing their next three matchups and finishing the fall stint 1-5, with three game wins and fifteen losses overall. They currently sit at 50th in the rankings.
League of Legends
Silly Gooses
The Silly Gooses had an unconventional start, beginning the season with two forfeits against teams listed as N/A. But once they actually got to play, the matches were tight.
By the end of October, they were sitting at an even 3-3, with six game wins and six losses. Their OMW% of 43.75% and OOMW% (Opponent of Opponent’s Match Win Percentage) of 51.35% show that they’re right in the mix with their competition, neither dominant nor outmatched, and they’re continuing to fight for a better position in the standings. They secured a solid 13th place ranking in the Pacific Region.
Overwatch 2
Stardust Crusaders
The Stardust Crusaders kicked things off with a tough 0-3 loss to Pieper High School’s Pieper Warriors, but they bounced back immediately with a dominant 3-0 win over HCHS Overwatch.
By the end of week three, they were 2-1, holding an outstanding 80% opponent match win percentage, meaning they were beating incredibly strong teams. They won six straight games after dropping the first three of the season, shifting their momentum completely.
The momentum slowed in the next two weeks, where they picked up two more losses and only managed to take two games off their opponents. Their ranking fell from 17th to 43rd, and their OMW% dipped from 80% to just over 41%, but their early-season strength showed the team’s potential against top-tier competition.
Super Smash Bros.
Organization XIII
Organization XIII came in with a dominant 6-0 sweep over RCS Perfect Shields from Regina Christian High School. They followed it up with a 6–4 win over the Westland Scorpions.
They opened the season 3-0, dropping only four games out of their first 22 making a statement to all their opponents in their first year. As the season progressed and opponents got tougher, they went 1-2, closing out their next trio of matches in a slightly less dominant fashion. The team slipped from 5th to 13th in the rankings but still closed with an impressive 26 game wins and 17 losses.
Exceptional Players
A few standouts across all teams made serious statements in the individual statistics.
Dalton Robbins ranked 5th out of nearly 180 players in Score Per Game, averaging 469.75 points.
Mason Atwood tied for 3rd in Goals Per Shot Percentage, landing an incredible 100% conversion rate.
