K-8 TEACHER – WALDRON ISLAND SCHOOL
Reports to: Waldon School Principal
Evaluated By: Waldron School Principal
FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary: Commensurate with Experience and Education
Hours per day: 7.0
Work Schedule: 180 School Days + 5 non-school days
JOB SUMMARY
The K-8 teacher will create a program and classroom environment that implements district approved curriculum to provide a positive learning experience for all students. The teacher will document student progress, activities and outcomes; address specific educational needs of students; and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:
Provide clear and focused instruction for all students by using a variety of teaching strategies that promote student engagement and interaction to meet the needs of all.
Develop and modify instructional programs to meet individual needs.
Provide on-going assessment and monitor students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals by using quality classroom- based, district and state assessment tools.
Maintain student records including daily grades, attendance reports and others as required.
Provide assistance and guidance to individual students, including participating in IEP meetings with district staff, facilitate online work with specialists as needed
Establish and maintain a standard of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe and productive learning environment.
Enforce school rules and monitor student behavior in non-classroom settings.
Communicate positively and regularly with parents and/or legal guardians in the areas of growth, student progress, and teacher expectations; develop meaningful collaboration between home and school.
Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with grade level team members and other staff, administrators, parents/legal guardians, support groups, and community members.
Collaborate with building and district-wide staff, para-educators, and volunteers for the purpose of providing an effective school program.
Plan and implement special activities collaborate with the other smalls schools for joint events.
Provide a report presented to the Site Council at the monthly Site Council meeting.
Acts as onsite supervisor for classified staff and performs administrative duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications; Education and Experience:
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement
Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
Completion of all district required trainings within sixty (60) calendar days from date of hire
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
Demonstrated successful experience in implementing a prescribed curriculum.
Skill in student management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior. Experience in PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of the developmental needs of the student age group.
Must possess a positive attitude about change and an eagerness to implement changes that will enhance student learning.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community and participate collaboratively in teams.
Ability to continue participation in staff development to maintain professional skills.
Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
Ability to effectively integrate technology resources into the curriculum.

Employee is often required to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time. Employee is frequently required to use fingers, hands, and arms in the course of employment and requires the ability to listen carefully while filtering out normal classroom noise. Ability to listen effectively, speak clearly and visually observe students on a routine basis is required. Employee must be able to lift 25 pounds or more and perform occasional bending, stooping, twisting and reaching above the shoulders.

Work is typically performed in a classroom or school environment. Attendance at extra-hours meetings is required along with the ability to deal effectively with distraught, angry or hostile individuals while representing the district on potentially sensitive matters. The employee must adjust to frequent interruptions in their work schedule. Exposure to normal levels of office dust, VDT screens, and office machines and associated chemicals are frequently encountered. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
