Science, Social Studies, and Language Arts:
Our 1st graders have finished up their studies of the Human Body Systems and are now learning about stories from different lands. They listened to three different cultural versions of what we know as “Cinderella” and are presently working with examples of stories with thumb-sized characters from places all over the world. They are sure having fun with these stories, you could hear a pin drop during what we call, “Listening and Learning”. And WOW are these kids working with some high level vocabulary.
STEM and PBL:
After we finished up our study of bats and owls, during which we learned about the unique body structures that help these animals survive, we dove into learning about the human body systems and then a study on World Geography using stories from around the world. We are just finishing up our studies of Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia and will soon start learning about the solar system.
