Art of Digital Photography

Capture Your Opportunity

This course provides an introduction to the art and appreciation of digital photography. Students will explore the basic elements of composition and the principles of design including light, movement, and color theory. Combining training in camera operation and image editing with artistic theory, students will learn to visually communicate their ideas and creativity.

Industry Description

Of all the career industries, the Arts, Media, and Entertainment sector requires perhaps the greatest cross-disciplinary interaction. The work in this sector has a propensity to be largely project-based, requiring both independent work and interdependent management skills for career success. New technologies are also constantly reshaping the boundaries and skill sets of many arts career pathways. Consequently, core arts-sector occupations demand constantly varying combinations of artistic imagination, metaphoric representation, symbolic connections, and technical skills. Learning the skills and knowledge for creating, refining, and sharing work in the Arts, Media, and Entertainment industry sector promotes teamwork, communication, creative thinking, and decision-making abilities-- traits that are necessary to function successfully in the competitive and media-rich twenty-first century.


Classes

Photography 1 

Photography 1 will dive into the history of photography from camera obscura to the digital age, as well as research and focus on photographers that fit into each students' preferred aesthetic. Students will have access to Canon cameras, and will be tasked with projects that dive into multiple genres, and within these projects will be further application and attempted mastery of basic photography principles.
