All of our books have an address, a home. The address is found on the spine of the books.
Our Fiction books also have other letters on the spine. They are the first letters of the AUTHOR'S last name They would be either:
One single letter for the EASY books, such as : A, B, C.
Three letters for the FICTION books, such as ROW, ADA, SPI.
Fiction books are always shelved alphabetically.
The next thing to look at, for the Easy [E] books is the lexile color.
Sometimes, you will see Fiction books that have either:
[E] Which means Easy
OR
[FIC] Which means Fiction
How We Shelve Non-Fiction Books:
In our library, we use Whole Number Dewey Decimal. All of the non-fiction books have a number that indicates a category of where it lives in the library. For example, 636 is the Dewey Decimal number for PETS. We have a lot of different kinds of pet books, so....we break it down a little further and have an area for 636 Dogs, 636 Cats, 636 Horses, because all of these animals can be pets. We also have another area that has other animals but if the book is about being a pet, 636 is the address for those.
