We got a small hydroponics system from a relative. My mom would germinate the seeds and they would grow. I just needed to apply this to my system and it would be good right? no.
The amount of strategic planning was illuminating the whole struggle.
Originally in school, I was asked to sketch a design and this is what I came up with. I altered it based on time and function in an area.
My step father and I begin to work out some plans so when we went to the store we knew the materials we should consider getting. In the beginning, we were going to follow this pattern. We later changed it to fit a smaller version.
This was our list heading in. We decided to go smaller, 3 elbows, 3 straight, 1 cap, tubes, air pump, Plastic, glue, timer, light, and a bucket.
Cutting holes in the PVC pipes for the plants.
Disassembled pieces of the system.
Water pump used to circulate the water.
Sprouts of dill
Keurig cups work well as a medium to store plants
Basil germinating
Chia sprouts
Chia sprout very quickly and grow in a heavy abundance. I used them with my siblings to demonstrate germination extremely fast.
Dill sprouts
This is without the full plants germinated. By the time final display is needed, my plants will be pretty big.
The system was challenging but worth while. I am extremely fortunate to have the ability to afford what i needed. There are so many different alternatives, for those who may not have the same privilege as me. It really is an interesting topic.
