Why They Inspire Me
Shel Silverstein
I relate these poets to different times in my life. I read Silverstein when I was younger and enjoyed the humorous poems and the drawings that went along with them. I remember asking to be read constantly. Even now I love to look back on his poetry, nostalgic for simpler times.
Richard Siken
Siken is a poet I only discovered recently. Looking into him when I watched a video where his book "War of the Foxes" was referenced. I really liked what I saw so I bought it as well as his other book "Crush" I admire his style of writing and enjoy analyzing his work.
Sylvia Plath
While Sylvia Plath is a well-known poet I also only started really reading her work recently. I had of course heard of her before, and read some of her poetry in school but hadn't researched her at all. Luckily this project gave me the opportunity to do so. I saw myself in Plath, relating to her struggles with mental illness. I can only hope to one day be as great a writer as she was.
