Dear Panel Members:
For my Senior Project, I plan to do a documentary about the liberty orchard. I’ve chosen film making as my subject because in recent years I’ve been interested in the topic. I want to learn about what it actually takes to be a filmmaker; what film makers do on a daily basis, where they find locations and how, what they practice, and the processes they have to go through. Because I’ve wanted to get more into the other arts and get into photography and film, I think it will be a great use of my time now that I'm in college to figure out if this is what I want to pursue further. I want to develop a general understanding of the mindset and the activities of a filmmaker on a day to day basis.
I would say that I have a lot more understanding of film and photography than the average highschooler, since it’s been a topic of interest to me for some time now. I don’t know how things look from the perspective of a real photographer. I’m positive that this topic will be able to sustain my interest for over thirty hours (I spent all of last year at school filming and taking photos for the class and for school). I spoke with Lance Madzey and his estimate of time we will spend working together is about 40-50 hours.
This project will involve a lot of new growth for me, including writing my own script, doing all the director work myself, etc. This project will be a big stretch because it will push me out of my comfort zone and involve tons of new learning.
Lance Madzey will be a fantastic mentor for me. He was my teacher in my tech program last year; he’s been involved in a lot of film making and video practices and more than equipped to be my mentor. Some to if not most of the project will be done alongside Lance, getting all the info I need and the skills I will need to learn from him. I’m sure we will spend over 30 hours together over the course of the project. I think Madz will be an amazing mentor for me because I learned so much from him last year and I think I will continue to learn more and more from him.
Lance Madzey has classes to teach currently but I think we will be able to find plenty of time in our schedules. The film will be worked on time over the weeks I don't have class and or work. I think that the project will be done near the end of December to the middle of January and be done with amazing quality.
Thank you for your consideration of my Senior Project.
Sincerely,
Carter Brown
