Mrs. Austin
After spending the summer in the NJIT FSI Jumpstart Program, we concluded our time by presenting what the program was about and what it was that we did. We included various activities that we did during our time there like trips, investigations and other interactive projects. It was a great experience and we had a lot of fun learning new things that I was not so sure of. Something great about this program was that it also helped us prepare for our forensics class that we would have at our school this year. It was a great head start in undertanding the material we would be going over.

During our time in the NJIT FSI program we were tasked to study a case study that used forensic evidence as a part of their investigation. I decided to do my case study on the Night Stalker. We had to find research on the case, find specific details on the use of forensic evidence, and just know the effects of the forensic evidence. It was a great project that helped us learn about different and interesting cases and how forensic science helped the case in general.

The amount of wrongful convictions that are found in many cases are frightening to look at. Wrongful convictions most often stem from varies factories such as inadequate defense, improper forensics, government conduct, false confession, etc.. Through these various factors there are many ways these someone can be wrongfully convicted, leading to them having to serve time. There is a organization known as the Innocence Porject, that have a goal is freeing many from wrongful conditions. Through our presentation we were tasked to select someone who was helped with the Innocence Project and explain the overall affects, having to get locked up for something you did not do.

After discussing criminal psychology, we were tasked to study a case study that reflected the impact psychology has. With a partner, we needed to develop very thought out presentations, incorporating factors leading to criminal acts by our chosen killer. We needed to compile a profile of this criminal in a research scenario. The importance of this presentation, was to be able to understand the certain factors that come into play when criminals do what they do. In Richard Chase´s case, he grew up in a troubled household leading into the life of criminal activity later. Through research, we were able uncover certain points in Richard Chases life that we can tell he was troubled.
