This week we reviewed simplifying algebraic expressions by using the distributive property and combining like terms. Our first unit is on solving multi-step equations which will include those skills. Students were introduced to using inverse operations to undo an expression. We completed the Aims Web screener and will use the data to place students in Charger Time groups.
This week we learned how to write an algebraic expression to represent a visual pattern to find the number of tiles in any stage of the pattern. Students were also introduced to exponential functions. They found out the shape of an exponential graph is a curve and used the graph to solve an application problem about how many dominos (increasing by a scale factor of 1.5) it would take to knock down a skyscraper. Next week students will have their first quiz in math 1.
