I live in Durham with my husband and two girls: Oriana & Navy.
I am an avid lover of reading actual books (no e-readers or audiobooks, though I love the convenience at the beach).
I'm not superstitious, but I am a little stitious.
I'll binge watch The Gilmore Girls, The Office, and Friends.
A quick list of my favorites:
-coffee
-chocolate
-handwritten notes and letters
-Diet Dr. Pepper or Diet Mt. Dew
-jokes & memes
-gum (cinnamon & minty)
-friendship bracelets
Mom of 3 busy boys
I've been to Disney more times than years than I've been alive
I'm as extra as possible
TESTING UPDATE: This past week we completed our school wide AimsWeb+ screener in reading. Monday 9/9 we will take our curriculum's reading screener. After both screeners are complete, teachers will use the beginning-of-year reading data to evaluate student's needs and adjust their learning accordingly.
We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know our new 8th graders. They have shown us that they are engaged and ready to learn! Starting Tuesday, we are diving into Unit 2- Character Development and Identity, where students will focus on the essential question: How do your teenage years prepare you for adulthood? During this unit, students will be reading non-fiction scientific articles and poetry that allow them to look into the reasons adolescence is challenging. Students will be using the evidence from their reading to write their first essay of the year, an argumentative essay with the prompt: "Write an argument about the impact of ‘environment’ on the personal development of teenagers. Consider how relationships, cultural influences, and social-economic standards contribute to shaping teens’ identities, values, and decision making processes. Make sure to include specific examples and quotes from the personal narrative in Unit 3, “It’s Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens” and focused poems to strengthen your position."

Starting Tuesday, we are diving into Unit 2- Character Development and Identity, where students will focus on the essential question: How do your teenage years prepare you for adulthood? During this unit, students will be reading non-fiction scientific articles, "Bronx Masquerade", and a study of Jason Reynolds that allows them to look into the reasons adolescence is challenging. Students will be using the evidence from their reading to write their first essay of the year, an argumentative essay with the prompt: "Write an argument about the impact of ‘environment’ on the personal development of teenagers. They also will be writing creatively with the support of author Jason Reynolds's "Write. Right. Rite" program. Make sure to ask to see your student's writing and talk to them about the process.
