Step by Step Instructions
First, you want to choose a topic that you feel strongly about. Make sure you have quantifiable data and information to support your argument.
State your position quickly. By asserting your opinion fast, the reader will know where you stand and will continue reading to learn why you have that certain position.
Structure your argument. Usually, you want to state your position, then the facts that support argument, and finally an example that demonstrates the argument.
At the end of the opinion article, offer solutions to the problem and restate your argument. Make sure that this conclusion sticks in the mind of the reader and makes an impression.
End with a BANG!
Once you’re done with your article notify the Opinion Editor and move it into the “Ready for Section Editor” column on Trello
Your article will go through a series of edits, starting with the section editor, editor in chief, and finally Ms. McCranie.
Once your article has been finalized, work with the staff and Ms. McCranie to publish on the online Talon, or the printed edition.
