Dual Enrollment
Dual enrollment allows you to earn college credit for college courses completed while you're still in high school. There are several considerations before enrolling:
-Why are you considering dual enrollment?
-Do your high school grades and coursework reflect the prerequisites and experience needed to take this college course and do well?
-Do you have the time in your schedule to handle a college course in addition to your high school work and/or summer activities?
Dual enrollment Approval Process
Community Colleges and some universities require students to receive pre-approval from their high school counselor in order to register for a college course at their institution (College & Career Staff cannot approve dual enrollment). Visit Your Counselor's Home Page

NOTE - Students must also receive pre-approval from their counselor BEFORE enrolling in any college course if they wish to have the course placed on their Oak Park High School transcript. There are policies in place regarding which courses can be included on the OPHS transcript so it is imperative students first email or meet with their counselor to discuss in more detail. Additional information to consider:
College courses placed on the OPHS transcript and used towards graduation credit might NOT be accepted for credit by a college after high school (known as double-dipping).
Many students take a college course and do not add it to their OPHS transcript. When applying to college, students simply send a separate transcript from the college where the course was taken. It varies from college to college on how college courses are weighted when a separate transcript is sent. Check with each college admissions representative for more information.
