Ms. Baker 

My name is Liza Baker and I love teaching. I have experience in teaching students in elementary, middle and high school as well as working in school administration schools in the US and Internationally.  I hold a variety of credentials including multiple subjects, art, computers, and administration. I earned my undergraduate work from the University of Maine and my Master's degree from Pepperdine University. I have taught in California, Maine, and in International Baccalaureate schools in Brazil. 

Teaching is a most amazing profession. This year I have the opportunity to teach both English Language Development and Introduction to Art classes to students in grades 6-8. 

English Language Develop (ELD)- I have the opportunity to engage your child in expanding how they view the world and themselves as I facilitate your child’s English language development. My experience in the international school environment has given me insight into the power and gift of language diversity. I value and nurture multilingualism and I gear instruction to provide a safe place to engage in a systematic approach to your child’s English language development.

 Art- In the Introduction to Art class, I support student’s exploration of the development of artistic skills in the use of materials, techniques, and composition and challenge them to think critically as they look at, make, and interpret art. We explore printmaking, drawing, painting and color mixing, composition, looking and thinking about art and ask the question:

Why is art important? 

I strive to create a risk-taking environment and I offer one-on-one feedback and support to students as they explore and acquire art skills.
